SOCCER DAY

SENIOR YOUTH

2011

The Soccer Day Tournaments for the U13, 15 and 18 Boys and Girls has come and gone, but not without a great big deal of adrenaline pumping in the veins of each and every player on the field. Not to mention the emotional ups and downs experienced by the numerous spectators. It was, to say the least, a very exciting weekend with the weather cooperating. During the girls games on Saturday there were only a few raindrops in the afternoon, and there was a little cooler temperature on Saturday for the boys’ portion, with just enough rain to keep the boys cooled enough to maximize their performance.

I would like to thank the players for demonstrating, to all in attendance, their high level of skill and sportsmanship; for the parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents for supporting their little and big athletes with their enthusiastic cheers; for the team officials for being there during the summer weeks helping and motivating these young gladiators achieve their full potential; and for the game officials for ensuring the safety of the players and for “calling” a fair game : its wasn’t really a hand ball and the player wasn’t really offside. Did I mention my undying gratitude to Sharon Brouwer, U13 Boys Convener, Glenice Lewars, U13 Girls Convener, Catherine Maloney, U15 Boys Convener, Steve Ethier, U15 Girls Convener, Rob McIntosh, U18 Boys Convener, and last (but definitely not least) Paula Fitzgerald, U18 Girls Convener who assumed the director role during my absence, for their unselfish dedication, attention to details and countless hours spent to make the Cumberland United-Unis Soccer Club and this Community a much envied place in which to live.

Thank you.

Peter Mayer

Senior Youth Director

The following are the results of the final matches held last weekend August 20 and 21, 2011:

Saturday

U13 Girls - Falcons winning over Bluejays in shootouts (shootouts are murder)

U15 Girls - Hawks winning over Celtics in shootouts (more stress)

U18 Girls - Madrid winning over Chelsea (no shootouts – less stress)

Sunday

U13 Boys - England winning over Brazil (Brazil had no wins during the regular season, but managed a place in the final with a surprise win in the semi-final)

U15 Boys - France winning over Brazil (you would think that this was the World Cup competition match)

U18 Boys - Milan winning over Real Madrid (meanwhile Bayern and Arsenal, on the other field, were showing everyone that their caliber of play was just as great)
