Cobra Representative Program
Our competitive program begins at Under 09 with one girls and one boys team these and all our other Cobra teams participate in the Multi-Jurisdictional District League operated by the East Region Soccer League. The Cobra program of Cumberland United is focused on the development of players. We will provide an environment where players can fully develop their soccer skills. Cumberland United will emphasize the long-term goals of player development rather than short-term goals like winning a game or tournament. To develop talented athletes, it is essential for us to focus on skill development and not on winning. Winning will be a by-product of our player's development.
Required Commitment
Our Cobra program is a competitive soccer program and development of the players requires a commitment to attend all practices and games. This is applicable at all levels, including Regional, Premier and Division 1 teams. For players to develop at any of the levels they need the full participation of their team mates. Our program runs during the summer so it is understood that families take holidays. Two weeks vacation is acceptable. If a player will miss more than two games and four practices for the Division teams or six practices for the High Performance Teams during the season, they should not plan to play for a Cobra team.
Cobra Player Evaluations
For the spring / fall tryouts, Cumberland United will be conducting player evaluations to determine player's individual and tactical skills in relationship to the other players in their age group. Evaluations will be conducted by independent evaluators assigned by the Technical Committee.
Playing-Up
It is Cumberland United Soccer Clubs policy for all players to be able to play with players with equally ability and to be playing where they will develop and be challenged. Should an under age player need to be further challenged by playing up an age group (or two) he/she will be evaluated by two or more of the Technical Committee and to ensure the player placed in an environment best suited to challenge and develop his/her development. This will not be the call of the players parent or guardian a member of the Technical Committee or the coach of the player must recommend the player to be conceded to play up.
Cobras Team Training
The schedule for our Under 09,10, 11, 12 , 13 and 14 teams will be three training sessions per week for the High Performance teams and one game. The lower teams will have two training sessions and one game. One of the training sessions for the Under 09, 10 and 11's will be a session with professional coaching.
Coaching
Cumberland United recognizes that the success of our development program depends on the players we have, but also as much on the quality of the coaches. We also realize that coaching has a significant impact on the continued participation of youth players, at the recreational and competitive level. Cumberland United is committed to developing and implementing a coach development program so we have coaches able to provide a fun, enjoyable and challenging environment whether the team is recreational or competitive.
Game Nights
The ERSL is the League in which the Cobras play and as such the ERSL governs all items such as game nights. Please visit the ERSL website to see what nights each particular age group and division plays in.
